At Animal Medical Center Hollywood, we believe in the concept of preventative care. A number of diseases and conditions can be prevented with regular veterinary care, and some diseases are more successfully treated with early diagnosis and intervention.
Throughout your pet’s life, we encourage regular health examinations by a doctor, and we will develop a vaccination schedule based on individual risks. We also address flea, tick, and intestinal parasite control throughout life; and appropriate nutritional needs based on age and lifestyle.
It all starts as a puppy or a kitten with a comprehensive health examination around 6- 8 weeks of age. We will start a vaccination series, and cover topics such as nutrition, parasite control, spaying/neutering, and micro chipping.
As an adult pet, from 1 to about 8 years old, we encourage health examinations at least once per year. In addition to regular vaccinations, the exam looks for signs of underlying or developing disease. When needed, additional screening or diagnostic tests may be suggested.
Our senior wellness care starts around 8 years old, and depends somewhat on breed. We strongly urge exams at least twice per year and health screening tests, such as blood work or x-rays, at least once per year. Since animals age more quickly than people, having an exam every year is like a senior citizen only going to the doctor every 5 to 7 years! If diseases are uncovered during the exam, early treatment may give your pet a longer, more fulfilling life!
